Alex Ray will take the field at Cabell Midland for the final time this season.
“This Friday will be my last opening game playing for Midland,” Ray said. “Hopefully, we will play well and get the win.”
The game Ray was referring to is the 2016 season opener against Spring Valley, which was played at Cabell Midland.
“It is really an honor to suit up for this team every week,” Ray stated in an interview. “I’m going to be sad when it is all over.”
Before Ray’s career at Cabell Midland ends, he and the rest of the seniors will try one last time to bring a state championship to the Castle.
“We have worked hard for four years and we hope it pays off this season,” fellow senior Drew Keeton said. “Alex is one of our key players and we need him to be at the top of his game to anchor our defense.”
Ray was chosen to play in the Blue-Grey All American game, a game which showcases talent from across the nation and can lead to big opportunities.
“It is a huge honor to be selected as part of the All American game,” Ray stated. “There will be a lot of talent there and to be a part of it is a great feeling.”
The game will take place in January of 2017 at Ever Bank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
Although football is an incredibly important part of Ray’s life, he also shines as a member of both the track and the basketball team.
“Sports are a major part of my life,” Ray said. “I have been blessed to be able to take part in three sports and be a part of three teams.”
Not only does Ray shine in athletics, he also takes pride in the academic field.
“School is very important to me,” Ray claimed. “I challenge myself every year to better my GPA and not to put athletics above schoolwork.”
While Alex Ray optimistically looks towards the future, it is no question that a championship this season is his main priority.
