This French film is but one of the six foreign films playing, with English Subtitles, at the Keith Albee this weekend.

The Marshall Artists Series, in partnership with the Keith-Albee, is offering students an opportunity to expand their cultural horizons this weekend with six films from six different countries. Each film will have an $8 admissions fee and occur on either Friday, Oct. 28; Saturday Oct. 29; or Sunday, Oct. 30. The films that will be available this weekend are listed below, along with each’s country of origin, language(s), length, description and show times.

 

Movie title: “Mustang”

Country of origin: Turkey

Language(s): Turkish with English Subtitles

Length: 1hr. 37 mins.

Description: After causing a “scandal” in their village, five sisters are forced to face the consequences of their actions, and are stripped of their freedom. The girls, unhappy with their lives, rebel against the limitations placed upon them, as well as those who seek to oppress them.

Show times: Saturday, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday 5:30 p.m.

 

Movie title: “The Lady In The Van”

Country of origin: The UK

Language(s): English

Length: 1 hr. 44 mins.

Description: Based on a true story, this film follows the changing, somewhat odd relationship of two people named Bennett and Miss Shepherd, who shared a property in a similarly unusual way: Miss Bennett parked her van in Bennett’s driveway “temporarily” and went on to live there for 15 years.

Description: When hairdresser and aspiring drag performer Jesus finally gets his moment on stage, the event is ruined by his father, a former boxer who has been absent from his life for 15 years.  The clashing expectations and priorities of the two men are troublesome at first, yet as the film progresses, Jesus and his father’s struggles to understand one another and to become a family again show a different kind of love.
