Marching band Indianapolis trip

Our award winning marching band traveled up to indianapolis last thursday to compete in the 2018 Bands of America Grand Nationals championship, where 108 of the best bands in the nation compete for first.

“I loved traveling there and seeing some amazing bands from around the nation.”  Said Freshman snare drummer Payton Conley. “We are so used to West Virginia bands that we rarely see how marching band is like in other states.”

Band is taken more seriously and is highly more competitive in other states, like Ohio and Indiana. Bands there have higher band fees and sponsors which allow for bigger and groundbreaking shows.

“I know we weren’t gonna get first, ” said Conley. “We go for the experience and to see what other bands across America do differently than us.”

The band that won the whole thing was Carmel High School from Indiana with 97.350, followed by Avon High school with 96.150 and then Blue Springs with 95.60.
