Unique Places to Visit Around the World

Joshua Biser, Co-editor

There are many popular places to travel in the world.  From Orlando, Florida to Paris, France, there are lots of places to visit around the world, but some of them are not as well known as others, but are amazing places to visit nonetheless.  Here’s a list of 5 of them.

Giant’s Causeway, North Ireland

With legend telling of this place being created by a giant, Giant’s Causeway has been estimated to be home to around 40,000 pillars of basalt, created some millions of years ago by volcanic eruption.  The view of the Causeway has inspired artists and travelers alike for hundreds of years, and will continue to do so for a long time still.

Giethoorn, Netherlands

Giethoorn is a simple town, with one major difference, it has no roads.  Instead, citizens travel through canals between the houses. Known as “The Venice of the North”, Giethoorn isn’t notorious for its tourism, but still brings in about 200,000 people a year.

The Tianzi Mountains, China

A set of mountains unlike any other, the Tianzi Mountains served as the inspiration for one of the sets of the movie Avatar, back in 2009.  Located in the Hunan Province in China, these mountains get their name from the term ‘son of heaven’, which translates to Tianzi in Chinese.  Anyone interested in breathtaking views is recommended to check out the Tianzi Mountains.

Chocolate Hills of Bohol Island, the Philippines

For most of the year, the chocolate hills might seem like a misnomer to a very strange set of hills.  During the dry season, however, the brush on the hills turns from green to brown. In addition to their interesting color, these hills also have an interesting shape.  Often considered man-made, the hills actually get their shape from being the uplift of coral deposits and a result of rainwater erosion, according to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
