Huntington Greek Festival
September 4, 2019
September is the perfect time of year for outside activities; the transition of extremely hot weather to cool breezes and enjoyable temperatures. One of the coolest outside activities to participate in would be the annual Greek Festival.
The Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Huntington throws a weekend long festival on 11th Avenue each September. When you arrive, you can expect to hear traditional live music. You can watch traditional dancing, and even participate in the group dance at the end of the day. There are vendors set up that sell gifts, gyros, souvlaki, and other foods. More cuisine is available when you go into the social hall, or the basement, of the church. They have some foods for a la carte and other foods including dolmades and keftedes. Venturing into the church is also interesting. You can observe the breathtaking windows and statues.
Obviously, it can get a bit warm while at the event, so iced coffee, hot coffee, and desserts like baklava are always obtainable. Spending a day with friends or family at the greek festival and exploring is a great way to become immersed in the community as well. The festival is always lively and appreciates volunteers on their website, so if you get the opportunity go ahead and visit for the weekend. You may find something you enjoy.
