Team USA Barely Gets by Turkey

Yesterday morning, September 3rd, Team USA took on Team Turkey in the first group stage of the Olympics. The USA won 93-92 in an overtime game. The game ended with Celtics SF Jayson Tatum getting his ankle sprained, this will keep him sidelined for the team’s next two games.

Turkey had four chances to win the game, but couldn’t convert on the four free throws. Turkey has three players that are in the NBA: Ersan Ilyasova, Cedi Osman, and Furkan Korkmaz. Team USA struggled against other countries in the National Basketball Olympics, losing to Australia recently.

Australia’s main players being Andrew Bogut, Joe Ingles, Aaron Baynes, and Patty Mills.

Khris Middleton won the game for team USA with the two game-winning free throws and his 15 points. Kemba Walker also scored 14 points in the nail-biting win vs Turkey.

“We just found a way to stick through and get a big win,” said Khris Middleton on the win. USA’s next game is against Japan and USA will be without Jayson Tatum, Rookie Rui Hachimura will get his first chance to play against the NBA competition. The USA will have to battle through to win the Olympics this year.
