Best 80’s Movies

Hannah Tomes, Editor

The eighties were a memorable time for music, fashion, and movies. A lot of iconic movies came from that time period that can make you feel nostalgic even if you weren’t alive then! Here is a list of some of the best eighties movies that people still enjoy to this day.

1. E.T.

This movie was a large part of most childhoods growing up in the 2000’s, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you should definitely give it a watch! It’s a nice family movie about a kid who finds an alien and helps him return to his home planet. E.T. actually creeped me out when I was a kid, but I still loved this movie.

2. Stand by Me

I actually watched this movie not too long ago and I loved it. It’s based on a short story by Stephen King and it’s about four friends who hear about a dead body out in the woods so they set off on a journey to find it. It’s really funny but also teaches good life lessons about friendship.

3. A Christmas Story

This is a pretty well-known movie and it’s a great one to watch during the Christmas season. It’s a funny and entertaining movie that people of all ages can watch. I’ve been watching this movie every year since I was a kid and it never gets old.

4. Gremlins

I always thought this movie was really weird but it was still fun to watch. If you somehow haven’t seen it yet, it’s about a boy who gets a strange pet that basically ends up going wild. It’s pretty interesting and it’s crazy from start to finish.

5. Dirty Dancing

This movie might not necessarily be school appropriate but it has to make the list because it’s so good. It’s a great movie to watch during the summer because it takes place at this lodge that’s like a summer camp where everyone learns to dance. It puts me in a good mood every time I watch it.

These are a few of my favorite eighties movies, and of course there are some others, like Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, Ghostbusters, and more. There are definitely plenty of good ones that came from that decade!
