On Monday, October 7, the New York Yankees became the first team this year to sweep a team in the ALDS series. The Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins at a score of 5-1. The Yankees will next play the winner of the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays. The Astros lead the Rays 2-1. They will play tonight with the opening pitch at 7:07 pm. If the Astros can clutch out this game, they will take on the Yankees in the ALCS. If the Rays win, there will be a fifth game to decide who will advance.

One of the standout players for the New York Yankees Monday night was second baseman Gleyber Torres. He had a solo homerun in the top of the second inning and put the first point up for the Yankees, making the score 1-0. Another standout performance was Yankees pitcher Luis Severino. He pitched four innings and recorded only 4 hits, 2 walks, and four strikeouts. Another standout player was the Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius. Didi went 2-4 and recorded 2 RBI’s.

With all of the Yankees’ success, the Twins have had a miserable postseason yet again. They are now tied with the longest streak for playoff losses in North American sports. They haven’t won in the playoffs for 16 playoff games in a row.

Aaron Judge and the Yankees hope to succeed this year and win the 2019 MLB World Series.
