NBA All Star Weekend 2020

This past weekend was the NBA’s 69th NBA All Star Game. This game the events were in Chicago. This was only the 3rd time the game has been in Chicago. The events started on Valentines Day, February 14 and lasted until February 16.

It all started on February 14 with the Rising Stars game and the Celebrity Game. Team USA won the rising stars game led by Trae Young. Team World was led by Luka Doncic. Team USA won 151-131. The MVP of the game was Charlotte Hornets highflying forward Miles Bridges.

The Celebrity game was coached by Stephen A. Smith and Michael Wilbon. Team Wilbon won 62-47. This team was led by Chicago’s own Common. He won the mvp of the game leading the way with 12 points, and 12 rebounds. Atlanta rapper Quavo had 19 points, but the outcome was a loss, he had 27 points in last years contest. Coach Stephen A even got a technical in this game, which is very unusual, and never happens.

On day 2 of the events we had the Skills challenge, 3pt contest, and the very controversial Dunk Contest. Miami Heat big man Bam Adebayo took home the trophy for the skills challenge, beating Indiana Pacers big man Domantas Sabonis.

This year’s 3pt contest ended up being a great one. It was Sacramento Kings sharpshooter Buddy Hield vs Phoenix Suns sooter Devin Booker in the finals. Buddy Hield ended up winning at the final shot to beat Booker.

This years dunk contest was a big controversy. The contestants were Pat Connaughton , Dwight Howard, Aaron Gordon, and Derrick Jones Jr. The finalist were Aaron and Derrick. These two players ended up having a long dunk off, everyone thought it was gonna be a tuie and they both would win, but you can’t do that in the dunk contest. Aaron Gordon had a 50 for all of his dunks except the last one where he jumped over Celtics big man 7’5 Tacko Fall. Some people thought that Aaron got robbed again, just like in 2016. But the award ended up going to Derrick Jones Jr., who also had his fair share of perfect dunks Saturday night.

The main event of the weekend was on Sunday, February 16. It was the All Star Game led by team Giannis vs Team LeBron. There was a new format to this game with a target score of 24 (to honor Kobe Bryant). This ended up being one of the best All Star games of all time. Team LeBron won 157-155, on the game winning free throw from Anthony Davis. this ended up being probably the most competitive All Star game of all time. The MVP was Kawhi Leonard, who had 28 points and 8 threes. he was the first winner of the Kobe Bryant MVP award. Other players had big games like Chris Paul,( who invented this new format), Giannis Antetokounmpo, Rudy Gobert, Lebron James, and Anthony Davis.

its safe to say that this was a great All Star weekend and it will surely be in Chicago again in the future.
