It’s Almost Time For Spring Sports
February 23, 2020
As winter sports are coming to an end, it is almost time for spring sports to start training and competing. All spring sports here at the castle begin on March 2nd. Some sports like track and field have already started light conditioning for the upcoming season. Cabell Midland offers four sports for the spring season: track and field, baseball, softball, and tennis.
In order to try out for any of these sports, you must have an overall 2.0 G.P.A. from the last semester of school you’ve completed. You must also complete the sports physical form that is filled out by your physician, a concussion testing form, and a drug testing consent form. All sports team members have a chance of getting randomly chosen for drug testing multiple times.
In case you are interested, here is more about the spring sports we offer here at the castle.
Track and Field-
If you love running, jumping, or throwing then this sport is for you! The track team has many spots open for all types of athletes. This sport is great for all those who are wanting to be a part of a team. Some of the events that track competes in are distance running, hurdles, long jump, and shot put to name a few. The practice is either in the gym, around the school grounds, or on the track. The cost is affordable as well, the uniforms are paid for and they even take buses to some events. The only big thing you have to pay for is a pair of good spikes.
Baseball and Softball-
Both the baseball and softball teams are very competitive. Both house elite varsity and junior varsity teams. Team conditioning is open to everyone who wants to try out, but only a select few will make the cut. Cabell Midland offers a field, dugout, locker rooms, press box, bullpen, infield tarp, drags, tractor, brooms, and chalk liner. Both teams also have won several tournaments state-wide. So come out and see what baseball and softball have to offer. Equipment and uniforms will not be provided by the school.
Tennis-
Cabell Midland offers both a boys and girls tennis team. This sport does take a lot of practice and they are only a select few that make it. Yet, anyone is able to try out. Equipment and uniforms will not be provided by the school, but practice and some matches do take place at our very own courts. The tennis team competes for both singles and doubles. I was on the school’s tennis team in my 9th and 10th-grade year and I had a lot of fun doing it. You do have to be prepared to travel to places like Parkersburg during the school week, without the help of a school bus since the team is so small. Only 6 girls and 6 boys get to play with room for some alternates.
I strongly encourage you to play a spring sport, you won’t regret it and the memories are endless. If you are able to, I say go for it. Just remember to not move your car to your team’s location as it could face consequences.
