Looking Back on 2015

2015 was an amazing year for many reasons and we are hopeful 2016 will be even better

As the year 2015 draws to a close, we look back on all that took place this year.
From the world of sports, to the dawning presidential debate, 2015 has been a year to remember.
The year began with a bang when the New England Patriots won Super Bowl XLIX over the Seattle Seahawks, with Tom Brady earning the Super Bowl MVP.
Also in sports, American Pharaoh became the first winner of the Triple Crown of thoroughbred horse racing since 1978 when Affirmed won the three races necessary to become a Triple Crown winner.
In other news, multiple states, most notably South Carolina, removed the Confederate flag from government property. Many see this as progression for American civil rights, as the flag came under scrutiny for representing the Confederate States of America.
The United States Supreme Court stirred controversy when, in July, it ruled that same-sex marriage would be legalized in all fifty states. Many felt the news would pave the way towards a more equal future.
In May, the Boston Marathon Bombing jury found Dzhokhar Tsarnaev guilty for committing the worst act of terrorism in the United Stated since September 11, 2001. Tsarnaev was sentenced to death for his role in the bombings.
In the political world, former first lady Hillary Clinton announced her bid for presidency in April. She currently holds a slight lead in Democratic votes over fellow Democrat Bernie Sanders.
Donald Trump joined the race for presidency, this time on the Republican side. Trump’s fiery persona and pledge to change America make him an attractive candidate for the ultra-Conservative nomination.
Recently, Pope Francis made his first visit to America. The Pope left the Vatican for Washington DC before further traveling to New York and Philadelphia. After visiting the United Nations, Francis went back to Rome at the end of September.
As we move closer to 2016, events will continue to unravel, from the upcoming presidential debates, to the approaching NBA season; 2015 is showing to be one of the most exciting years in recent history.
